Fans No Longer Willing To Buy PlayStation Consoles For Exclusives Alone, Reveals Major Poll

Fans Say PS5 Exclusives Weak Compared To Past Generations!

Story Highlight
  • A major poll reveals that nearly 60% of fans are no longer interested in buying PlayStation hardware solely for its exclusives.
  • Many say that the current slate of first-party offerings from the company is weaker than it used to be.
  • PlayStation’s focus on third-party releases also detracts from the console experience.

PlayStation has long been known for having some of the gaming industry’s best exclusives. This is still an ongoing trend, with the likes of God of War, Spider-Man, and Astro Bot leading the lineup this generation’s critical and commercial reception.

However, compared to the past generations, PlayStation’s latest exclusive lineup has become a bit too stale for players’ tastes. Perhaps this is why many fans say they no longer feel compelled to buy a PlayStation console purely for the exclusives.

Why it matters: Although Sony has placed a greater emphasis on third-party platforms this generation, the company still values its first-party teams and their output.

PlayStation’s First-Party Lineup Needs Newer IPs

The poll, which was conducted on Neogaf recently, highlights the growing disappointment with Sony’s first-party IPs.

Although the first-party games continue to boast a high level of quality, many believe PlayStation is playing it too safe this generation. The same sentiment was echoed throughout the community when Ghost of Yotei’s latest gameplay was revealed.

Over 60% of the respondents state that Sony’s first-party titles alone would not be enough for them to buy a new console. One reason for this answer may be the fact that general audiences are now used to regular PC ports from PlayStation.

However, users argue that even if PC ports were to become rarer, this would not be enough to prompt a PlayStation purchase.

In contrast, Nintendo’s focus on exclusivity seems to be bringing the same results it always has. The Nintendo Switch 2’s latest exclusive release also marks the return of 3D Donkey Kong after multiple years.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see where all the gaming giants stand with exclusivity a few years from now.

What do you think about PlayStation’s current slate of exclusives? Do you still enjoy the gaming giant’s first-party offerings? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
