- Battlefield 4 server owners report that they’re unable to rent or renew community servers.
- They fear EA might be putting an end to Battlefield 4, a move to make players move onto the upcoming Battlefield 6.
- The Stop Killing Games movement has been trending recently, especially after publishers are putting an end to some of the most beloved games without any reason.
Even though EA has been out of the FPS competition for a few years due to the subpar release of the most recent Battlefield 2042, that still wasn’t enough to kill the franchise.
Older Battlefield games are still played to this date, with decades-old titles surpassing the newer ones in terms of player count.
Battlefield 4 still sees hundreds of thousands of daily players, most of whom rely on fan-run community servers, which are now down. Several server owners say they can’t rent or renew servers, sparking fears that EA may be planning to kill the game.
Why it matters: Battlefield 4 is one of the best-selling and performing entries of the franchise that still holds up to date. Killing the game would adversely affect the whole franchise’s reputation, especially when it’s at its lowest.

On Reddit, one server owner brought up this issue of not being able to renew their servers, and other owners have corroborated the same problem. EA has completely removed the option of renewing or buying new servers in Battlefield 4.
Moreover, if the owners are unable to renew their servers, it may result in their complete death.
It’s essential to notice that official servers still work at this time of writing, and this issue could very much be a bug from EA’s end. We suggest awaiting EA’s official word on this matter.
On the other hand, fans worry that EA may be doing this to promote Battlefield 6 and draw players to the newer game ahead of its release. As mentioned before, most fans still play older titles compared to new releases.
The Stop Killing Games movement has also taken a rise recently, with many publishers killing older releases, rendering them unable to play. The most recent victim is Need for Speed Rivals, another EA-published game.
