Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released in October last year and was soon considered one of the biggest failures, with many fans calling it the most disappointing release of 2024.

Despite much criticism, the title was nominated for many awards last year and even a GOTY from Time Magazine. Just recently, Dragon Age: The Veilguard won another GOTY at the Gayming Awards 2025.

Why it matters: Despite being considered a failure by the gaming community, Dragon Age: The Veilguard seems to be a hit among the “gayming” community.

The Gayming Awards were hosted by content creators DEERE and Milady Confetti and took place in West Hollywood. Despite massive nominees like Dragon’s Dogma 2, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and others, Dragon Age: The Veilguard bagged the GOTY.

However, this wasn’t the only award the title won. It also won the award for the best LGBTQ+ character, which is, of course, won by the title’s protagonist, Rook. Not only that, but the voice actor of Rook’s character, Erika Ishii, also won the award for Best LGBTQ+ Voice Actor.

An insider recently stated that the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t the reason behind the recent layoffs at Respawn, with EA claiming that the only reason was that it was not a live service title.
