The Nintendo Switch 2 was promised to take affordability into account, and the console’s official price tag has just been revealed.
Alongside new features and games, Nintendo has confirmed the MSRP for its latest console. The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $449 worldwide, but the Japanese model will be much cheaper.
Why it matters: Many expected the console to cost no more than $400. The global price makes Nintendo’s latest gaming hardware more expensive than the Xbox Series S, putting it on par with the PS5 Digital’s price worldwide.
According to the latest information, Nintendo will sell the cheaper variant as a ‘Domestic Only’ model, pricing it at 49,980 yen or $334. On the other hand, a different model in line with the global variant will be sold for $467.
Nintendo suggests that the lower cost is primarily due to the weaker Yen. The gaming giant will also implement a region lock on this particular variant to combat potential resellers.
Effectively, this means that the cheaper Nintendo Switch 2 will only support the Japanese language and games from the region. Although more information on the pricing discrepancy has yet to show up, many believe the Trump Tarriffs likely play a role in the global MSRP.
As for other regions, the console will be priced at around $600 in Canada and £400 in the UK. The prices also depend on whether the console is being purchased with the Mario Kart World Bundle, which offers a major discount when considering the base game’s $80 MSRP.
