- Fans are furious at Snail Games USA for using excess generative AI with the ARK DLC trailer.
- Recently Studio Wildcard, the main team behind the game, handed the project to Snail Games.
- The trailer showcases just a few seconds of gameplay and a whole lot of generative AI.
Generate AI is becoming a massive part of game development moving forward. While it can be beneficial in certain cases, its excessive use can become too distracting for the audience. That is precisely what a new trailer for the ARK DLC showcases.
ARK: Aquatica, a new DLC for the ARK: Survival Ascended game has received a new trailer, and a major portion of the trailer is completely made by generative AI.
Why it matters: Generative AI is often labeled as the death of creativity, as the games don’t receive the same level of attention, as if they were made by a proper development team.
Revealed at GDC 2025, ARK: Aquatica has debuted a 1-minute long trailer. Except for a few brief seconds of gameplay, the entirety of the trailer has been made by generative AI, which is very apparent based on the visuals.
Studio Wildcard is the main team behind ARK: Survival Evolved, but interestingly, it recently handed the reigns of the project to Snail Games USA instead, and it is quite apparent as to why they did it.
Moreover, there are no details, no proper cutscenes, and not even any details on what the project will be. It just starts off with Snail Games’ logo, a few seconds of gameplay, and a bunch of generative AI, before ending at the expansion’s title.
Understandably, players are furious at it, and state that the trailer is ‘disgusting‘ and the studio should ‘be ashamed of itself‘. This makes sense too, as they don’t want to pay for such low-effort content, as generative AI becomes more mainstream.
