Full Focus Is On Mass Effect Now!

Story Highlight
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard was one of the biggest disappointments of 2024.
  • The game failed to revive the iconic series and instead received a huge backlash from the fandom.
  • So, its director left the studio, and shortly after that, BioWare fired every single writer who had worked on this game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was a massive failure for BioWare and Electronic Arts. While the game’s start was pretty good, it didn’t meet the expectations at all, given how massive the series is.

According to a report, BioWare expected the game to sell 10 million copies in 3 months. However, the game only sold 1.5 million copies in 2 months, which proved to be a massive disappointment

Following the disappointing launch, the game’s director left EA, and just recently, BioWare fired every writer who worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Why it matters: It isn’t surprising that the studio has kicked every writer as one of the prominent directors in the gaming industry called the game’s writing terrible and dehumanized

I'm now looking for a new writing/narrative position. It's been a privilege to work with so many amazing devs over my 20 years at BioWare, and I will cherish the memories of the wonderful folks in the community I've met along the way. Thank you all.

Karin West Weekes, Patrick Weekes, Ryan Cormier, Jen Cheverie, and Michelle Flamm have confirmed their departure from the studio. It should be noted that Patrick Weekes is the game’s lead writer and has been fired from the studio after working there for two decades.

All of the ones who have been fired are now looking for more work. The comment section has also been filled with positivity, with many wishing the writers good luck in their future endeavors.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
EA’s Recent Dragon Age Title Has Been A Commercial Disappointment

Congrats on the release, you’re fired.” What an industry… I’m sorry to hear that, Trick and friends, and I hope you find a soft place to land with a company that supports you. Thank you for your work so far.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has received a lot of hate due to its huge focus on forcing an agenda into a video game. The game even features a cutscene that lectures you for two minutes on how to apologize to someone for misgendering them.

Over 90% of the players weren’t satisfied with the title, which is why it became the most disappointing game of 2024.
