Ocypus is a new player in town. Based in China, this brand manufactures PC components like PC Cooling solutions, PSUs, PC Cases, and accessories. They carry multiple lines in each product category. The Iota series is their flagship series.

I am looking at Iota L36 White AIO in this content. The salient feature is a digital display on the block and subtle A-RGB lighting. The white fans are not A-RGB backlit. The pump is their in-house design and they have mentioned that it is designed to enhance heat dissipation.

This cooler is compatible with Intel LGA115x/1200/1700/1851 and AMD AM4/AM5 sockets. The cooler is rated for 300W TDP and has an MSRP of USD 99.99.

What Makes The Ocypus Iota L36 Different?

Seems like there is a trend in the market with a basic live temperature display on the screen. The GameMax Iceburg 360 has that and now the Ocypus Iota L36 also has such a display. Though both coolers have different designs I prefer GameMax’s approach here. However, the Ocypus cooler has a better all-around performance than the GameMax cooler.

Packaging And Unboxing

The main packing box has gray color tone finish. The cooler is placed vertically in the box, unlike side-wide placement.

Packaging and accessories (Image By Tech4Gamers)

Let’s see what is provided in the box.

  • 1x Cooler with preinstalled fans
  • 1x Intel Metallic Backplate
  • 2x AMD Mounting Brackets
  • 2x Intel Mounting Brackets
  • 4x Screws for brackets
  • 4x Thumb Screws
  • 1x Thermal Paste
  • 1x Y Slitter Cable
  • 12x Radiator Screws
  • 2x Velcro Strips
  • 1x User Manual

A Look At The Radiator

A trend is catching up in which the fans come pre-installed over the radiator. This cooler is also following the same trend. Ocypus has used white clamps to conceal the connection between tubes and fittings on the radiator.

As can be seen, there is a small size cable with a 4-pin PWM connector on each fan. Ocypus has designed it this way to reduce the cable clutter. There is a 3-way PWM cable that runs in series. The fans are connected to this cable and a single PWM connector is used to regulate the speed of the fans.

The aluminum radiator has a dimension of 397x120x52mm with fans. There are no bent fins on this radiator. The fin count is 20 FPI and the radiator has 12 channels for the coolant flow. There is a gap of 105mm between two mounting holes on opposite ends.

There is an Ocypus branding on the side frame of the radiator. Ocypus uses rubber tubes with nylon braided sleeves with a length of 400mm. The tube has an ID of 6.5mm and an OD of 12.5mm. There is another port cover fitting which seems reserved for factory use. Tampering it may lose the vacuum pressure of the loop.

Design Of Pump Housing/Block

Let’s take a look at the design of the pump block.

The pump housing is made of ABS and acrylic. It is not a circular design. The housing has a dimension of 70x70x65mm. There is a transparent cover over the top covering the display screen. This screen shows the temperature of the CPU or GPU in ᵒC/ᵒF.

29ᵒC idle temperature is being displayed on the screen. This is the temperature of Intel core i7 13700k. This dotted matrix layout adds a subtle touch to the block which is further augmented by the A-RGB lighting diffuser on the border.

This display is fixed meaning the block needs to be installed with tubes side at 3’o clock so that the display remains upright.

There are two spring-loaded screws on the pre-installed bracket. The sides have an Ocypus branding in silver.

There are angled fittings on the backside making a connection with the tubes. These can be slid left or right. The silver clamps are looking pleasant.

The cable connection includes a USB 2.0 connector for the software control, a 3-pin connector to power the pump, and standard ARGB connectors. The pump is rated for 3100 RPM ±10%. It is rated for 3.6W using 0.3A at 12VDC.

Copper base

The cooler has a copper base measuring roughly 55x55mm. Take the protective cover off during the installation.

A Look At The Iota F12 Fans

There are three non-RGB white fans with this cooler. Each fan has seven blades. The silver color accent on the center represents the O in Ocypus branding.

The backside has a 4-arms assembly. Each arm has an angular layout to direct the airflow. The fans are made in China and they use fluid dynamic bearings. They are rated for 0.2A at 12VDC each.

The frame is square and has slope-down design on the border. There are anti-vibration pads on the mounting corners.

4-pin PWM connector

Each fan has a short-length cable with a 4-pin PWM connector. The specifications include:

Model Iota F12
Dimension 120x120x25mm
Speed 500 to 2000 RPM ±10%
Airflow 77 CFM
Static Pressure 4.65 mmH₂O (Max)
Noise Level ≤ 29 dB(A)
Current 0.2A
Voltage 12VDC
Power 2.4W

Installation

The cooler is tested on MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX using Intel core i7 13700k. The steps include:

  • Place the Intel backplate on the motherboard.
  • Secure the backplate using standoff screws.
  • Place the Intel mounting brackets over the threaded portion of the standoff screws.
  • Secure the brackets using thumb nuts.
  • Peel off the protective cover from the base of the cooler.
  • Apply the thermal paste over the CPU.
  • Place the block over the CPU by aligning the spring-loaded screws with the standoffs on the brackets.
  • Use a screwdriver to tighten the spring-loaded screws.
  • Install a radiator in the case.
  • Connect and route the cable.
  • Download and install the software from the Ocypus website.
  • You are done.

Clearance

The dimension of this cooler is 397x120x52mm. You need to make sure that your case has a 360mm AIO mount.

Software

Toggle options
Toggle options (Image By Tech4Gamers)

The software is pretty basic. It does not have a standalone interface. You need to click on its icon in the system tray on the Taskbar. As you can see, you can turn on/off the display, change the unit of temperature from ᵒC to ᵒF and vice versa, and select either the CPU or GPU.

A-RGB Lighting

This cooler uses standard connectors which makes the A-RGB lighting compatible with the RGB sync technology of the motherboard manufacturers. The cooler was tested on MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX and it was responding well to the changes in the MSI Mystic Sync app.

Should You Buy It?

Buy It If

✅You are looking for a cooler with a better value: Ocypus Iota L36 white cooler has an MSRP of USD 99.99 and it comes with a 5-year warranty. Given its overall performance and looks, it is definitely giving you value for your bucks.

✅You want a digital display: This cooler has a display LCD on the block that reports the temperature of the CPU or graphics card. However, this is just about it. It is a basic display with no customization.

✅You prefer reduced cable clutter: Iota F12 fans come with a short-length cable for which a single 3-way PWM cable is used. This reduced the cable clutter.

Don’t Buy It If

❌You don’t have a spare USB 2.0 header: This cooler needs one USB 2.0 header on your motherboard. If you don’t have any spare, then sip this cooler or use it without a digital display.
