- Capcom has announced new games for Onimusha and Okami.
- The Japanese studio wants to bring back more classic franchises in the future.
- Fans hope to see new games for IPs like Dino Crisis, Marvel vs. Capcom, Viewtiful Joe, and God Hand.
The Game Awards 2024 proved to be an incredible showcase for new games like The Witcher 4, Elden Ring Nightrein, and Naughty Dog’s first new IP in a decade. While these reveals were all crowd-pleasers, Capcom’s trailers arguably won everyone over.
The publisher has confirmed the unexpected return of both Onimusha and Okami, but this is not all. As per Capcom, even more dormant IPs will be brought back in the future.
Why it matters: The Japanese gaming giant has a wealth of first-party games in its back catalogue that fans have longed to see in the modern era.
Capcom has partnered with legendary director Hideki Kamiya for the Okami sequel after nearly two whole decades. On the other hand, Onimusha is set to return with a proper new game after over a decade, although it received a remaster earlier in 2018.
As per Capcom, this is just the beginning. In an official press release, the publisher will continue reviving franchises from its portfolio to fulfil fan demands.
Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.

While there’s no saying which IPs will be revived, the likes of Dino Crisis and Marvel vs. Capcom are high up on the list. Since the studio is working with Hideki Kamiya again, the long-anticipated sequel to God Hand could also become a reality eventually.
The publisher remastered Dead Rising recently. This remaster was part of the same initiative, so future revivals could involve remasters and remakes, in addition to original entries.
