PS5 Pro Not That Expensive At $700, Says Sonic Developer

"It Would Be Really Good For High-End Users"

Story Highlight
  • The PS5 Pro will cost $700 at release.
  • A Sonic developer has stated that this price is appropriate for high-end gamers.
  • He expects Sega to produce even better-looking games using the console.

PlayStation announced the PS5 Pro last month, leading to mixed reactions from the community. While many saw the potential for enhanced games, some found the $700 price tag too high.

Many developers also commented on the console. Naturally, game studios are excited to see what Sony’s latest hardware can do, and some even believe that it isn’t too expensive for what is being offered.

Why it matters: PlayStation is selling the console without a disc drive or stand. The PS5 Pro can easily cost close to $1000 when factoring in these costs.

The PS5 Pro Will Be Available Next Month

Speaking to IGN, Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka noted that the PS5 Pro could allow Sonic to move faster than ever. He also acknowledged that the $700 entry price is steep, but it may be worth it at the end of the day.

According to the producer, the console will be a great purchase for high-end buyers. The developer also believes that Sony’s ‘Pro’ branding is appropriate here since the hardware is quite a step up over the standard PS5.

I feel that with the quality they are providing, it’s not that expensive.

Despite the comments, Sega is currently focused on supporting a broader set of hardware for Sonic. As such, the series will continue to be released on older consoles, with the upcoming Sonic X Shadows Generations arriving for consoles as weak as the Nintendo Switch.

Anyhow, the PS5 Pro is now less than one month away from its release. Arriving November 7, the console promises a new level of visuals without sacrificing frame rates.

The debate over PS5 Pro’s price continues to rage on, but it remains to be seen how the market will react to this release. Initial pre-orders have not been the most encouraging, but the gaming giant could see a slew of new buyers as big games like GTA 6 and Death Stranding 2 arrive in 2025.
