Black Myth: Wukong Is A Solid GOTY Contender!

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong, the biggest hit of 2024, has not been nominated for GOTY by Golden Joystick Awards.
  • Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 are among the nominees.
  • Fans are furious over this as now they have even fewer expectations at The Game Awards 2024.

Black Myth: Wukong is arguably the biggest launch of this. It is even the biggest single-player launch on Steam, and there is a reason for that. Fans have actually loved this game as it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, and even after two months, 300K players, on average, are still playing it.

The game broke many records, so fans are expecting it to win the GOTY award at The Game Awards. However, those expectations seem to be growing smaller as Black Myth: Wukong wasn’t even nominated for Game of The Year by the Golden Joystick Awards.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong, packed with action and some Soulslike elements, is the first big Chinese game to perform this well, so such treatment would anger the fans.

Black Myth: Wukong’s Success Proves That It is A Solid GOTY Contender

Gamesradar+ has posted that voting is live for the Golden Joystick Awards 2024, and there are a total of 20 categories. However, the fan-favourite Chinese action game doesn’t seem to be on the Console Game of the Year list, and fans are disheartened.

Astro Bot, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Dragon’s Dogma 2, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Kingdom, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth are the ones that are nominated for the award. Many fans are complaining on social media, with some claiming award shows are a joke.

Award Shows are a joke. The sales numbers will speak for themselves.

Fans are claiming the Golder Joystick Awards are rigged due to politics and that Westerns have an agenda against Chinese games. Black Myth: Wukong did receive some unnecessary hate and a low score due to not featuring enough “diversity and inclusivity,” so this much should have been expected.

While many fans are not surprised, they surely are heartbroken, given how much they liked this game. Had it been nominated, it might have gotten the most votes, given its massive popularity.

IGN also allegedly manipulated the votes as this Chinese action game was winning the competition. Many fans revealed that within a span of an hour, Black Myth: Wukong received a wave of negative votes, which caused it to fall in third place, but it is back in first place again
