According to a manifest listing discovered by X leaker @Olrak29, we now finally have additional details regarding the new chip codenamed Z2X28W 64-bit Microprocessor. The Ryzen Z2 Extreme will have a combination of three Zen 5 and five Zen 5c CPU cores.

Furthermore, the Ryzen Z2 Extreme could outperform Intel’s Lunar Lake offerings in terms of raw performance thanks to the new Zen 5 cores and an RDNA 3.5 GPU. Since AMD intends to release the Ryzen Z2 Extreme in early 2025, it shouldn’t be too long until we learn more.

However, it will be interesting to see who takes the lead this time after Asus did so previously with the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. The competition also seems to be divided this time around, with Zotac opting for the Zen 4-based processor for its Gaming ZONE, while MSI has opted to use Lunar Lake for its Claw 8.

With the AMD Z2 Extreme APU release, the future of gaming handhelds could take a different turn, effectively replacing devices such as ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.
