Helldivers 2 Has Become A Flagship PlayStation Game!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 is making new records each month.
  • A recent report states that Helldivers 2 ranks 7th in lifetime dollar sales for PlayStation titles in the US.
  • It only took two months for the title to achieve this milestone.

Helldivers 2 was released just over two months ago, becoming the biggest PlayStation PC launch on Steam. However, the title continues to shine and is still selling like hotcakes.

According to a new report, Helldivers 2 is already ranked 7th in lifetime dollar sales for Sony-published titles in the US.

Why it matters: PlayStation is known to publish multiple games in this region each year. Therefore, Arrowhead Game Studios appears to have outpaced most of Sony’s library in just a few months.

Circana’s Matt Piscatella reports that Helldivers 2 remains the best-selling premium game of 2024 year-to-date. While Dragon’s Dogma 2 debuted as the best-selling premium game of March, it could not claim the top spot.

Interestingly, the former even beat a gaming icon like Call of Duty in 2024. To see this series lose in yearly sales is quite rare, making Arrowhead Game Studios’ success that much more significant.

Elsewhere, Circana reports Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is 2024’s fourth best-seller in the US. This is encouraging after concerns about the game underperforming. Still, Helldivers 2 remains the star of the industry this year.

As a rough reference of the live-service shooter’s current popularity, players were given six days to eliminate 2 million bugs during a recent event. It took the community less than 12 hours to achieve this task. The developers themselves were surprised on this occasion.

These results have been the culmination of years of effort and relentless post-launch support.

Earlier this week, Arrowhead Game Studios made fundamental balancing changes to the shooter, tweaking weapons like the LAS-7 Dagger and P-2 Peacemaker. We have no doubt that these changes will be reverted if fans find them unsatisfactory.

Helldivers 2 came out second on the list of top 10 best-selling PlayStation games in March. It trailed behind MLB: The Show 24, but this is still an incredible result.

Meanwhile, the co-op shooter was still going strong on Steam last month. It may have lost its spot among Steam’s best-sellers, but the title dominated this last for well over a month, beating many major releases in the process.
