Suicide Squad Beyond Saving As It Falls To 200 Steam Players

Doing Even Worse Than Marvel's Avengers!

Story Highlight
  • Suicide Squad aimed to last longer than past Rocksteady games because of its live service nature.
  • However, in less than three months, the game has hit a new all-time low on Steam.
  • In the last 24 hours, it peaked at around 200 concurrent players.

Rocksteady opened itself to a new approach after the release of the live service Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, set in the Batman Arkham universe. While the game always led to doubts, the results were worse than anybody had imagined.

Following negative reviews and criticism all over the internet, this live-service release seems to be on the verge of death. In the last 24 hours, it peaked at just 209 players on Steam.

Why it matters: This puts the live-service title in line with the likes of Gotham Knights when considering player counts. According to reports, the player count was even lower than Marvel’s Avengers at one point.

Looking at SteamdB, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been on a constant downward spiral since its launch. The game saw a brief spike in players around the release of its first season, which also introduced Joker as a playable character.

However, the title saw around 400-500 peak concurrent players each day until recently. Within the last three days, it has been unable to achieve more than 250 concurrent players, falling as low as 209 on April 26.

Even fewer are playing the game at the time of writing, with only 105 active on Steam. At this rate, the game seems to be on track to drop below 100 peak concurrent players by the end of May.

While there is typically room for a resurgence in most live-service titles, we would not hold our breath for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A game like Redfall illustrates why we lack confidence in a comeback for Rocksteady Studios.

Rocksteady Studios might have a difficult time moving on since the developer went all-in on this project. Any live-service title requires years of planning and commitment, so it might not be possible to start work on another game anytime soon.

Still, we wish the studio and its staff the best.

Stepping into live service is always risky, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League shows how wrong things can go at times. At worst, the release could even jeopardize the future of Rocksteady Studios as a game developer.
