Redfall Has Struggled To Reach More Than 100 Steam Players For Nearly A Year

How Did Arkane Mess Up This Bad?

Story Highlight
  • Redfall was one of Xbox’s biggest games of 2023 but failed miserably.
  • The game’s Steam player counts have remained stagnant since June 2023, one month after it launched.
  • This game has struggled to reach over 100 concurrent Steam players on any given day for a whole year.

Redfall, released in May 2023, was a poor launch that never found redemption. The game was instantly showered with negative reviews from fans and critics. It was deemed not worthy enough to be played even via Game Pass.

Despite the poor launch, some fans still had hope, as a poor release is extremely rare for Arkane Studios. However, even after patches like the 60FPS mode, the game failed to regain players.

Looking back at the release one year later, it has barely reached more than 100 daily concurrent players on Steam since June.

Why it matters: Such player counts are simply unheard of for a game released by a developer as big as Arkane Studios.

Redfall Players On Steam
Redfall Has Managed To Gain Over 100 Players On Steam A Handful of Times In One Year

Redfall launched to over 6K concurrent players on Steam in May. However, just one month later, the game struggled to maintain triple digital daily concurrent peaks on the platform.

On 12 June 2023, the game had 103 peak concurrent players within 24 hours. However, just a week later, the player count dropped to 93, and since then, it has struggled to reach 100 players on Steam.

The game has occasionally reached daily concurrent peaks of up to 180 since then, but these are rare instances. Even major disappointments like Gotham Knights typically have way twice as many players on a given day.

At the time of writing, Redfall has 26 players in-game.

A game like Cyberpunk 2077 was arguably just as bad at launch, yet it has completely transformed itself today. One major difference here is that CDPR’s RPG always had the foundations of a great game.

Anyhow, Bethesda was confident in redeeming the game last year. However, its plans do not appear to have worked out.

While these player counts come from the Steam version, we don’t imagine Redfall being any more popular on Game Pass or Xbox consoles. Here’s hoping the team’s next game will be better.

Meanwhile, Arkae Lyon has unveiled Marvel’s Blade, and audiences remain excited for this team’s first project since Deathloop.
