Story Highlights
  • A next-gen update for Fallout 4 was originally announced over a year ago.
  • This update is introducing 60FPS and higher resolution support on April 25.
  • It will also improve the experience on PC and last-gen consoles.

Bethesda promised a free next-gen update for Fallout 4 as early as 2022. However, two years later, the game has yet to receive this update.

As the game approaches its ninth anniversary in 2024, the studio has finally delivered good news. This update, following many delays, is set to debut on April 25, offering 60FPS support for the game.

Why it matters: Many fans were curious if Bethesda had abandoned the update following the long wait between the announcement and today’s reveal.

Fallout 4 Continues To Receive Support To This Day

According to Bethesda, this update will introduce Quality and Performance modes for consoles. As expected, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X owners will be able to explore the wasteland at higher frame rates.

Meanwhile, PC users will benefit from this update since Bethesda is adding Ultrawide support. The game is also coming to the Epic Games Store, and Steam Deck users can enjoy smooth gameplay after the promised verification.

Moreover, new content will be added to Fallout 4 in the update. This will range from weapons to skins, expanding the gameplay options further. Perhaps the best part about this update is that it will improve the PS4 and Xbox One experience as well.

Bethesda states that stability improvements will translate over to the last-gen versions, making the game better across all platforms.

The Fallout Franchise Is Still Going Strong

It is important to note that Fallout 4 was already playable at 60FPS on new Xbox hardware. However, this update will enable 60FPS gameplay at higher resolutions and bring this option to PlayStation for the first time.

Alongside Fallout 4, Bethesda continues to support Starfield. The game has improved quite a bit since its launch, with new updates recently adding FSR 3 and promising the Shattered Space DLC for later.
