CDPR Aiming For Another Technical Marvel!

Story Highlights
  • CDPR wants to integrate more elements of films and combine them with gaming for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
  • The sequel is likely to feature significantly enhanced presentation compared to the original.
  • It will use Unreal Engine 5 instead of the REDengine that CDPR used for the first game.

In the latest drive of hirings, CDPR is looking for a lead cinematic designer for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Interestingly, the second game in the franchise will offer a ‘unique fusion of film and game,‘ which will take the visuals to the next level.

Why it matters: The original Cyberpunk 2077 offered breathtaking visuals, especially with the addition of Dogtown. However, CDPR wants the next one to integrate film elements to make it feel more cinematic.

According to the listing(spotted by GameRant), the team will focus on crafting cinematic sequences. These will combine motion capture, class-leading animation, and other presentation techniques to create something truly wonderful.

This seems to be a brand new direction the industry is heading towards. Hideo Kojima has teased multiple games with a heavy focus on film elements like Physint and OD, collaring with both PlayStation and Xbox.

Also, the upcoming Death Stranding 2 is said to blur the lines between fiction and reality with the Decima engine. Overall, we expect game presentation to take another massive leap in the years to come.

In addition, the listing hints at a much different route for cutscenes. While they were first-person in the original game, this one might have a third-person perspective for cutscenes showcasing a deeper focus on immersion in a new way.

However, CDPR states that the camera perspective has not been decided yet. Though Cyberpunk 2077 still looks great already, it was designed for hardware that is over ten years old at this point.

This makes it arguably inferior to linear and focused games like Alan Wake 2. However, with the new consoles, Unreal Engine 5, and CDPR’s goal of film-like qualities, the sequel may be a sight to behold.

The job listing states that CDPR is looking for a veteran with a lot of experience, hinting that the team is going all-out with the project. Here’s hoping that these promises will be fulfilled at launch this time.

Similarly, CDPR has massive ambitions for The Witcher 4. For this sequel, the team is aiming for another genre-defining RPG, so there is a lot of buzz surrounding this studio and its future.
