Nobody Wants Live Service Hogwarts Legacy!

Story Highlight
  • Hogwarts Legacy has become one of the most popular Warner Bros franchises.
  • Following Warner Bros’ decision to focus on more live service games, fans are worried about the sequel following this trend.
  • A petition has already gathered around 5K signatures to keep Hogwarts Legacy as a single-player game.

Hogwarts Legacy was the most successful game last year, so fans naturally have high expectations for its sequel. Following its release, Warner Bros has outlined plans to focus on live-service games.

While the first game was purely single-player, it is speculated that the sequel could be based on live service. However, with the grim fate of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League on display, fans have rallied to stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from following suit.

Why it matters: Rocksteady is the most significant example that proves jumping on live-service trends is not the wisest decision.

A petition has been created by Kevin Malcom as a direct response to the ongoing debate around this IP. This petition asks Warner Bros to keep Hogwarts Legacy as a single-player franchise, staying true to the first game.

In a little over a week, the petition has already gathered over 4.5K signatures. Kevin Malcom writes that fans loved the game for its single-player experience, so there is no need to create a live-service title around the IP.

He further goes on to explain why live service would be a bad fit for Hogwarts Legacy 2, claiming that it would add little to the experience. We can’t help but agree since Warner Bros released one of 2023’s best single-player games.

Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy Is Incredibly Immersive

Live-service games are often designed around this concept from the get-go. This means that a single-player series cannot be easily transitioned to this model, so it might be best for Warner Bros to stick with the existing formula.

The next game is expected to be based on Unreal Engine 5, but this is where the good news seemingly ends. Live service is not a good fit for every game, and there is little reason to force these elements into a series that sold 24 million units on its first attempt.

Like everyone signing the petition, we hope to see another single-player experience based on the Wizarding World from Avalanche Software.
