Red Dead Redemption 2 is still considered the pinnacle of story-telling by many. Featuring a mesmerizing open world, this Rockstar Games release does not know when to stop, reaching new milestones with each new quarter.
Take-Two just held an investor call where the company revealed several sales figures for different franchises. The investor’s call confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has crossed 61 million sales.
Why it matters: It has been over five years since the game first debuted. However, very few titles have been able to reach the high bar set by this open-world adventure.

This milestone makes it the 7th best-selling game of all time. The milestone was previously held by Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, which had racked up 60 million units sold.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was quickly closing in on this spot by last quarter, reaching 57 million sales. During the holidays, this title underwent various discounts and promotions, gaining an additional 4 million sales.
Meanwhile, the entire franchise has achieved 86 million sales, with the recently released remaster of the first game also contributing to this figure. Since no Rockstar Games release is planned for this year, the franchise is expected to thrive further.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will continue to be the developer’s latest game on the market for at least one more year. Therefore, it should be able to achieve several million additional sales before GTA 6 launches in 2025.
The game also reached a new concurrent peak on Steam recently, showcasing its relevance on the market. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 3 is inevitable, according to the voice actor of protagonist Arthur Morgan.
There is little doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the industry’s best works. The fact that it strays away from popular trends and offers a slower, more methodical experience is a testament to Rockstar Games’ talents as a studio.
While such an approach can alienate the masses, Rockstar Games’ approach shines from the beginning of this adventure till the very end.
