The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Exceeded 60 Million Units Sold

Now 7th Best Selling Game of All Time!

Bethesda Game Studios is best known for its iconic franchises, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. While the former has not seen a new entry in over a decade, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is still performing well.

According to Todd Howard from Bethesda Game Studios, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has reached a new sales milestone, selling over 60 million units worldwide.

This makes it the best-selling game in the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Why it matters: While the studio was already popular prior to the title, Skyrim took the developer to new heights. The game set a huge bar for future Bethesda Game Studios titles in 2011.

Speaking to IGN, Todd Howard said:

“12 years after Skyrim, we’re looking at a game that has over 60 million copies.”

Skyrim was already successful at release for Bethesda Game Studios. The game sold over 10 million copies in its first month, bringing new players and fans of Bethesda titles to the new universe.

Since then, it has seen multiple new releases. The game is currently available on nearly every platform, and this also includes the Nintendo Switch. These frequent releases and their appealing gameplay have helped the title stay relevant.

The latest figure also means that Skyrim is now the 7th best-selling game ever.

Skyrim is over a decade old, but it is still considered one of the best open-world games of all time. Furthermore, the strong modding community has helped ensure that players can continue to find new ways to enjoy the title.

Back in 2018, Bethesda Game Studios also announced the sequel, The Elder Scrolls 6. However, over five years later, the game is nowhere to be seen and is not expected to arrive anytime soon.
