- Recently, a report claimed that Microsoft would host an Xbox Developer Direct this month.
- Another leaker has now stated that this event will be held during the week of 14 January.
- A new game could be shadow-dropped at the Direct.
Xbox was quite active in marketing its biggest games last year. From a Developer Direct in January to a massive showcase during the middle of 2023, the gaming giant had plenty of exciting reveals and announcements.
It seems Microsoft is ready to kick off 2024 with a similar pattern. Following earlier rumours of a new Developer Direct for January 2024, another leaker has stated that this event is scheduled for the week of 14 January.
Why it matters: The Xbox Developer Direct format is still quite new, so there is always a buzz for unexpected and surprise announcements.
This leak comes from Zantorn, who has already shown a reliable record of confirming showcases like Nintendo Directs and State of Plays. According to the leaker, the Xbox Developer Direct’s date is set in stone.
Microsoft is unlikely to hold the event during the weekend, leaving us with dates between 15 and 19 January. An official announcement could follow soon since these dates are not too far.
In addition to this leak, reliable sources like journalist Jez Corden have confirmed the existence of the Xbox Developer Direct. Still, the question of a supposed shadow drop remains.
While Zantorn refused to comment on the rumours of a shadow drop, other sources claimed Xbox would release another game like Hi-Fi Rush after this shadow drop became the gaming giant’s best-rated release last year.
Fans should expect the likes of Hellblade 2 and Avowed to headline the Xbox Developer Direct. Last year, major first-party releases like Forza Motorsport and Minecraft Legends were given the most attention, so we expect the gaming giant to stick to a similar format.
Overall, 2024 should be a fruitful year for Xbox, thanks to various exclusives, the results of the Activision Blizzard merger, and more. Last year, the gaming giant already saw plenty of success, with Starfield beating Baldur’s Gate 3 as the most-played RPG of the year.
With an early start through a showcase in January, this momentum will be carried forward into the rest of the year.
