Ghost of Tsushima 2 Expected To Be Revealed This Year

Can't Wait For Ghost of Tsushima 2!

Story Highlights
  • Sucker Punch Productions has been working on a new project for nearly four years.
  • Job listings from the studio suggest that this title is a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
  • The first game is quickly approaching its fourth anniversary, and the studio has not released anything else since then.
  • Therefore, Ghost of Tsushima 2 could be showcased this year.

Ghost of Tsushima was released over three years ago and remains one of the most underrated exclusives among PlayStation titles. Multiple developers have praised the game for its beautiful open world and authentic Japanese representation, making it a fan favorite from the last generation.

As fans wait for more information on the IP, 2024 is shaping up to be the year for a Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement.

Why it matters: Sucker Punch Productions is among the few PlayStation first-party developers to have spent around four years without any major release. While Bend and London Studio lead this list, the Ghost of Tsushima developer comes in fourth place.

As noted by Zuby_Tech, Sucker Punch Production has not made any major projects since 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima.

Following this release, the developer worked on a Director’s Cut of the game for PS5 and released the standalone Legends co-op multiplayer mode as an add-on to the single-player experience.

However, the team has been focused on Ghost of Tsushima 2 for the most part. A job listing from last year already pointed to the sequel’s development, with the studio hiring for an unannounced open-world stealth game.

This job listing also hinted at a focus on melee combat. Since all of these elements are already part of the IP and the first game sold 10 million units, there is little reason to believe that the team is not working on the sequel.

PlayStation’s first-party lineup beyond 2024 is mostly a mystery. While Xbox has already shown various in-house exclusives for the future, the same cannot be said for PlayStation’s teams.

Therefore, with PlayStation in need of more convincing announcements in the wake of intense competition and teams like Santa Monica Studio still early in new projects, we believe there is a strong chance Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be finally announced this year.

Ghost of Tsushima

Recently, it was reported that Ghost of Tsushima had a budget of just $60 million, which is less than half of the budget PlayStation spent on exclusives like God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us Part 2.

Following 2020’s success, the sequel will likely be given a much bigger budget. This could also mean that the marketing campaign for Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be more extensive, opening up the opportunity for a reveal this year.
