Native PS5 Version Is Coming Soon!

Story Highlights
  • A popular dataminer claims a new version of The Last of Us Part 2 for PS5 has been added to PlayStation’s backend.
  • Previously, a developer and the game’s composer hinted at a remaster.
  • A PC port of the game is expected alongside this new version.

A remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2 has been mentioned on various occasions. First hinted at by the composer, this version of the game was most recently spotted on the LinkedIn profile of a Naughty Dog developer.

While this was already more than enough confirmation, a reliable PlayStation dataminer has pointed to a PS5 version of the game. According to PlayStation Game Size, The Last of Us Part 2 is coming to the PS5 as a native release.

Why it matters: Rumors of The Last of Us Part 2 remaster have been controversial since many believe the game does not need any updates. Therefore, it will be interesting to see the eventual reception of this release.

The Twitter account has developed a reputation for reliably reporting on upcoming PlayStation games found on the PSN backend. Furthermore, this information has been backed by Insider Gaming, confirming that a new version of the title is real.

While The Last of Us Part 2 is already available on the console, a new version will likely be similar to Uncharted 4 or Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, adding enhancements targeting the PS5 hardware.

This would include optimizations for the PS5’s architecture to eliminate loading screens, among other benefits like a higher resolution and frame rate. Additionally, the game is expected to come with the added benefit of DualSense support.

Fans can also look forward to additional content not part of the original release.

Since The Game Awards 2023 is right around the corner, we expect an announcement to be made next month. Following the arrival of The Last of Us Part 1 on PC this year, a PC port for this entry could also be announced soon.

Naughty Dog is currently busy with multiple projects, but a new release from the studio is unlikely to arrive anytime soon. Therefore, such remasters could keep fans engaged as they wait for the multiplayer spin-off and the next entry in the Last of Us franchise.
