ROG Ally Continues To Evolve!

Story Highlights
  • The Asus ROG Ally recently received a massive update, adding 900p resolution support.
  • AMD software features like Radeon Boost, Anti-Lag, and Super Resolution are also supported by the handheld now.
  • Apart from such additions, various bugs were fixed as part of the update.

Over the weekend, Asus revealed a BIOS update for the ROG Ally, which addresses a few problems and adds new functionality, including AMD HYPR-RX.

The addition of AMD HYPR-RX technology and support for a new resolution are two major updates for the handheld. According to Asus, improvements and fixes have been made to the Armory Crate SE software, games, and illumination.

In short, this is an essential update.

Why it matters: Such updates are crucial for prolonged support of gaming hardware. The 900p resolution support, in particular, will come in handy for newer games.

The 900p resolution is an important addition since it fits right between the blurry 720p and demanding 1080p resolutions, providing a balance between image quality and performance.

Asus has fixed bugs specifically targeted to EA Sports FC 24 and Resident Evil Village. These games will now be able to recognize external monitors with 8K resolution at 60Hz.

Additionally, a “strange bug” that prevented the handheld switching from gamepad mode to tabletop mode has been fixed. The biggest improvement comes in the form of the AMD HYPER RX implementation.

The Asus ROG Ally now supports Radeon Boost, Radeon Anti-Lag, and AMD Super Resolution. This ensures that even games without built-in FSR support can benefit from upscaling technology, leading to significantly better performance.

Still, the Fluid Motion Frames technology remains to be added to APUs. However, once AMD finalizes this feature for APUs, all RDNA-based handhelds should be able to benefit from it.

With this update, the Asus ROG Ally is better than ever. The handheld was recently discounted by $80, making it even more enticing since it can outperform many of its competitors.
