Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Has Surpassed 34 Million Players

Huge Milestone For AC4!

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is Ubisoft’s biggest asset, having sold over 200 million copies. Among this franchise, many entries are still popular, including 2013’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

This entry is also considered the best pirate game of all time as it merged assassin gameplay with a pirate fantasy, allowing players to sail the seas and grow their crew along the way.

The iconic pirate game turns ten today, and Ubisoft has confirmed a new milestone to celebrate the occasion. Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag has reached over 34 million players.

Why it matters: This entry was the most unique and different game from Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, allowing it to transcend the typical Assassin’s Creed fandom.

The official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account recently made a post to celebrate the game’s anniversary and thank the players for their support. Ubisoft also confirmed this incredible milestone, cementing Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag as an icon of the IP. It states:

“Over 34 million pirates have embarked on this unforgettable adventure through the Caribbean.”

These are huge numbers and show the legacy of the franchise.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was always considered an extremely strong entry. It followed up on the somewhat divisive Assassin’s Creed 3, taking the naval combat from the game and expanding it to a new level.

The narrative of protagonist Edward Kenway was also very memorable. Unlike previous games, Edward started as a pirate looking for treasure and fame, gradually transitioning into a fully-fledged assassin.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag had already sold over 11 million units by 2014, so it is surprising to see the game reaching thrice as many players today. Frequent sales have likely played a major role in this success.

The game is also available on subscriptions like Ubisoft+ today, making it easier for players to access it today. Nonetheless, we are glad to see this game doing well.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake

A rumor claims Ubisoft is also looking to remake this pirate adventure. We think this is a good decision due to the game’s everlasting appeal, even if older titles may deserve the remake treatment more.

With such figures, it is easy to see why Ubisoft is so focused on Assassin’s Creed. The developer is working on 11 games, hoping to bounce back from a poor position in the industry.
