Activision Believes Call of Duty Will Be More Immersive After Xbox Merger

Thanks To Microsoft's Tech and Tools!

The Call of Duty franchise has dominated AAA gaming for nearly two decades. Having found its biggest success with the Modern Warfare franchise early on, the series has been able to use that momentum to maintain relevance.

As Activision prepares to release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the publisher is on the verge of being acquired by Microsoft after the CMA provisionally approved the merger recently.

The merger will lead to a number of changes, bringing Call of Duty and other Activision games to Game Pass. However, Activision also believes it will allow the publisher to create more immersive Call of Duty games.

Why it matters: Microsoft’s influence goes beyond the gaming industry. It is also one of the leaders in the rapidly evolving sector of cloud technology, allowing studios to leverage this technology for higher-quality games.

Speaking to VentureBeat, the president of Activision discussed the publisher’s history, current influence, and goals after the ongoing merger with Microsoft. Among other things, Rob Kostich was asked how Activision would benefit from Microsoft and its tools.

In reply, he stated that Microsoft’s expansive ecosystem throughout the industry would bring Call of Duty to more players. The gaming giant has already signed deals with cloud providers like Boosteroid and EE, also hoping to bring the IP to Nintendo consoles.

The president elaborated that Microsoft’s tool would benefit the overall quality of the IP moving forward and said:

“Microsoft’s technology and suite of tools would benefit our teams to create greater, more immersive experiences.”

He went on to say that Microsoft’s support provided an extraordinary opportunity for Activision and its studios, leading to high hopes for the future of both gaming giants.

On the subject of Microsoft’s technology, developers like Hideo Kojima have also acknowledged its importance. The veteran Japanese developer is currently working on a new project, which would not be possible with Microsoft’s cloud technology.

Therefore, Call of Duty may use the same technology for a more innovative approach to upcoming releases.

The latest Call of Duty entry is gearing up for release next month. A full multiplayer reveal is scheduled for 5 October, which will be followed by the beta. As always, PlayStation owners will be able to join during the first beta weekend, while other platforms will be required to wait for a week.
