Spider-Man 2 Uses The Power of PS5 For Bigger Moments And Set Pieces

"It's About Delivering An Epic Feel!"

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the next notable addition to the PS5 library in 2023. Following impressive games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the anticipation for the upcoming title is at an all-time high.

Games like Alone in the Dark and Alan Wake 2 were recently delayed to avoid competition with this release, further highlighting the game’s influence over the gaming industry.

The recent previews have highlighted why audiences are so excited about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game is bringing bigger and better experiences than before, and Insomniac Games has revealed it uses the PS5 for bigger set-piece moments.

Why it matters: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 marks the first current-generation only title for Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man games, leading to endless possibilities.

Speaking to Gameindustry.biz, creative director Bryan Intihar was asked about the new potential of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 after the switch to PS5 hardware. He replied:

“We wanted our set pieces, our villain moments, to feel bigger. With the PS5, we can do that a lot easier than before.”

The previous games already featured massive set pieces with situations like Spider-Man chasing villains through New York or fighting the sinister six in an all-out battle. However, the upcoming release will take boss battles even further.

Bryan Intihar explained that Insomniac Games wanted to push the boss fights, and the PS5 allowed them to do so. He elaborated that a boss fight should be a memorable encounter for the players due to the threat of an unbeatable foe.

The recent previews highlight one such boss as Spider-Man faces off against the Lizard in a battle that takes him across multiple locations with a wide variety of epic set pieces.

Apart from the larger scale and scope, the transition to a current-generation-only title allows Insomniac Games to enable instant fast travel, nearly eliminating loading screens.

The studio also allows players to switch between Peter and Miles in the open world, with the PS5 enabling a seamless transition between the characters. Such additions are part of Insomniac Games’ goal to make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 the ultimate superhero fantasy.

The game will launch on October 20 and comes with various performance options, including 40FPS support for VRR displays. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will come with a similar length as its predecessor, offering around 17 hours of content for users looking to complete the main quest.
