Final Fantasy 7 Remake Reaches 7 Million Sales Milestone

Ahead of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Release!

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released on the PS4 console over three years ago. Square Enix has just confirmed new details for its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, revealing that the game is scheduled for release in February 2024.

Following the new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the gaming giant has revealed the latest sales milestone for the first game in the series. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has sold and shipped over 7 million units.

Why it matters: The remake caters to fans of the iconic JRPG title, but it also expands on the original Final Fantasy 7, allowing new and returning players to experience the story from a different perspective.

At release, Final Fantasy 7 Remake had already sold over 3.5 million units in 3 days.

Therefore, the game has taken several years to double this figure. However, with the current anticipation surrounding its sequel, the popular remake could see renewed interest from audiences.

While the game was limited to PS4 at release, it has since made its way to several other platforms. A new version of the game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, was introduced in 2021 for the PS5.

This version of the game was later released on PC, bringing the title to Steam and the Epic Games Store, where it was introduced to thousands of new players. Unfortunately, it is still not available on Xbox platforms.

The game also received excellent reviews at release and currently stands at a score of 87/100 on Metacritic. It was considered an impressive evolution of the JRPG formula that many had grown to love in 1997.

While several parts of the remake earned praise, its combat, in particular, was well-received for merging turn-based elements with a more modern action-oriented approach.

Such elements ensured that the remake was poised to deliver on the promise of a modern but faithful rendition of one of the best entries in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Following the release of the first of three remakes, Square Enix released Final Fantasy 16 earlier this year.

Much like the previous entries in the series, the latest title offers a unique take on the JRPG mechanics and has also gone on to sell over 3 million units in less than a week.
