Just two days ago, it was announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be coming to the Xbox Series X|S later this year. However, the announcement came with a catch, which was the absence of split-screen co-op on the Xbox Series S.
Elaborating on the matter, Xbox has confirmed that split-screen co-op has not been completely abandoned. Replying to a user, the gaming giant stated that it is working with Larian Studios to explore split-screen co-op support on the Xbox Series S.
Why it matters: This update confirms that Xbox Series S users will not miss out on a crucial part of Baldur’s Gate 3, ensuring parity between both consoles like Microsoft promised.
We're working with Larian to explore the addition of split-screen on Series S, stay tuned!

The development challenges for making the game playable for both the Xbox Series X and S were the primary cause of the initial delay. As a result, the developers decided to skip the split-screen on the budget console to launch in 2023.
This was disappointing for users of the Xbox Series S, but Microsoft’s update on split-screen co-op has received a lot of praise, which also highlights the gaming giant’s continued commitment to both current-generation consoles.
The news of Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to the Xbox Series X|S in 2023 was already met with quite an uproar, as the game has been doing tremendously well on PC. It has reportedly shipped more than 5.2 million units globally, becoming the best-rated PC release on Metacritic.
Additionally, the game will launch on the PS5 on September 6, 2023. Seeing how well the game has performed on PC since launch, a similar performance is anticipated on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has already raised the bar for many of the major future titles, but Xbox CEO Phil Spencer asserts that Starfield is a very different game, not being affected by the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Nevertheless, Larian Studios’ latest release is unquestionably a strong contender for the Game of The Year Award, competing against potential titles like Starfield, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Spider-Man 2 in 2023.
