Baldur’s Gate 3 Earns Title of Top-Rated PC Release To Date

Conquered Both Metacritic and Opencritic!

Baldur’s Gate 3 took the internet by storm, making it to the top 10 most-played Steam games in a few days. This has allowed it to become the second most-played Steam game of 2023, right next to Hogwarts Legacy.

In addition to reaching impressive numbers at launch, it received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Previously, it beat the recently launched Zelda entry to become the highest-rated game of 2023.

However, Baldur’s Gate 3 has also become the best-rated PC game on Metacritic and Opencritic.

Why it matters: The PC platform has an iconic library of games spanning several decades. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 has climbed to the top, beating all those games.

The game has a score of 97 on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated PC game. Looking at the list, it has managed to beat genre-defining games like Half-Life 2 and GTA 5 to reach this spot.

The PC platform has a rich history of high-quality games. These games come from big AAA studios like Rockstar Games and Bethesda Game Studios. However, this has not stopped Larian Studios from making it on the list.

It should be noted that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the only game from 2023 to make it to the top 10 highest-rated PC games of all time. Additionally, it is the second game from the IP to join Metacritic’s list.

This success has also carried over to the Opencritic platform, with the game reaching the top spot on both platforms. On Opencritic, Baldur’s Gate 3 beat exceptional titles like Elden Ring and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the top spot.

It has already succeeded in various areas, but fans of the RPG recently set a target to reach 1 million concurrent players. While the goal sounded far-fetched, the game set a new peak of over 875K concurrent Steam players over the weekend.

Following its success on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 is shaping up to be massive on the PlayStation platform. It has already conquered the pre-orders list, beating highly anticipated games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Xbox users will also be able to enjoy the massive RPG, but it is currently facing development hurdles with the Xbox Series S. Nonetheless, Xbox engineers and Larian Studios are working to address the problem, and a release is expected in 2024.
