The upcoming Raptor Lake refresh from Intel is expected to launch sometime in October. This refresh, like its predecessor, will feature the same architecture, though Intel might have something extra to offer this year.
The upcoming Raptor Lake refresh lineup is expected to come equipped with a higher core count and a higher frequency. The Intel Core i7 14700K was recently put to the test against the Core i9 13900k.
Wxnod shared a picture on his Twitter account confirming that the hardware leaker indeed has the new Raptor Lake refresh CPU, but the core and thread counts were hidden. However, it is expected to come equipped with a total of 20 cores and 28 threads.
Compared to The Intel Core i7 14700K, its predecessor, the Core i7 13700K, comes equipped with only 16 cores and 24 threads.
These are divided into 8 performances and 8 efficient cores. On the other hand, the Intel Core i7 14700K will come equipped with 8 performance cores, increasing the efficient cores to 12.
With the processor being a refresh, PC users will not see any IPC gains on the upcoming Intel Core i7 14700K. However, due to its higher core counts, the CPU can now score 20% higher than the Intel Core I7 13700K. Still, the single-core performance remains the same.
Due to the higher number of efficient cores, the Intel Core i7 14700K performs like the Intel Core i9 13900K. In Cinebench R23, the processor scored an impressive 36296 points. On the other hand, the Intel Core i9 13900K scored 37624 points.
Intel’s upcoming Raptor Lake refresh is looking good for the blue team. This would allow users with current LGA 1700 boards to utilize the new chips with extra cores.
