The Nintendo Switch has been out for more than six years now, and while Nintendo believes the Switch hardware is not lacking, the gaming industry is expecting better and more capable hardware from the company soon.
The Nintendo Switch successor has been rumored for months, and a recent report claims that a dev kit has already arrived at a Spanish studio. Following these reports, Nintendo appears to have updated its developer portal with NX 2.
Why it matters: Much like any other console, fans are looking forward to the new hardware. This also means that each new rumor attracts the attention of gaming enthusiasts worldwide.
The image above reportedly comes from reliable leaker NWPlayer123. The tweet has now been deleted, but it shows that NX 2 is now included for developers on the Nintendo Portal.
For the unfamiliar, the Nintendo Switch was initially codenamed the Nintendo NX. Therefore, this could mean that Nintendo is going for a simpler naming scheme, potentially choosing Nintendo Switch 2 as the title for the next console.
Since the installer/developer tool has been upgraded, this signals that Nintendo may be prepared to present the Switch successor (NX2) to multiple developers. This may also suggest that an official reveal is much closer than expected.
However, it should be noted that nothing has been confirmed for now. Therefore, taking this information with a slight grain of salt would be best.
While Nintendo has not said much about the next console, Nintendo’s President recently hinted at backward compatibility for the upcoming hardware. The company is looking to ensure a smooth transition and will use the Nintendo Account system for this purpose.
