More Final Fantasy Games From CBU3!

Square Enix picked Creative Business Unit 3 for Final Fantasy 16. The studio had previously worked on the popular MMO Final Fantasy 14, building plenty of good faith among fans of the JRPG franchise.

The latest title took a massive risk, straying further from the JRPG roots for a more action-focused gameplay experience. However, fans were confident that staff like Producer Naoki Yoshida and Battle Director Ryota Suzuki would not disappoint.

Final Fantasy 16 launched to an incredibly positive reception, and the game has already sold 3 million copies. Following this reception, Creative Business Unit 3 wants to work on future Final Fantasy games.

Why it matters: The positive reception will likely open up new opportunities for the developer in the future.

The developer recently conducted an event in Malaysia. While making the closing remarks, a developer said:

“Moving forward Creative Business Unit 3 is looking to create even more games for you guys out there.”

Square Enix has likely been impressed with the studio. This could mean that Creative Business Unit 3 could return for the next mainline entry in the JRPG franchise.

Square Enix is known to create various spin-offs for different entries in the Final Fantasy franchise. Games like Final Fantasy 7 have previously received this treatment, and the latest entry might be next to spawn spin-offs.

The studio’s success may also allow the team to work on a new IP in the future. However, all of this will take time as work on Final Fantasy 16 has not been completed yet.

Creative Business Unit 3 will continue to update the game for future improvements. This includes patches and bug fixes, which could address the game’s performance issues on PS5.

Previously, Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed an eighteen-month post-launch plan for the game to improve sales. A PC port is also in the works and will likely be released at some point in 2024.
