3rd Anniversary For PlayStation's Samurai Game!

Sucker Punch Productions is a studio known for creating titles like Infamous and Sly Cooper. Following a long hiatus during the PS4 generation, the developer returned to the gaming industry with Ghost of Tsushima.

While the PS5 arrived in 2020, PlayStation did not leave the older console behind. A few months before the launch of the PS5, Ghost of Tsushima was released on July 17, exactly 3 years ago.

Why It Matters: Ghost Of Tsushima is one of the most essential titles in the PlayStation catalog. It became the final AAA first-party game for the PS4 before studios would shift focus to development on the PS5 and PS4.

Ghost of Tsushima follows the protagonist, Jin Sakai, a samurai, on a quest to protect Tsushima Island from the Mongol invasion. The open world of Tsushima Island presents players with opportunities for stealth and confrontation.

The game introduced multiple combat styles, allowing players to engage with their preferred style. It also introduced stand-off duels, which were intense 1v1 encounters.

While general audiences found many things to praise about Ghost of Tsushima, its art direction continues to stand out from recent games. The game has an incredible color palette that breathes life into the open world.

Ghost of Tsushima was a resounding success for PlayStation, selling over 10 million units worldwide. A director’s cut of the game was also released for the PS5 in 2021, and it even garnered praise from Shinji Mikami, the legendary Resident Evil developer.

According to a previous report, job listings suggest that Sucker Punch may be working on Ghost of Tsushima 2. However, the sequel may be a few years since it was not featured at the latest PlayStation Showcase.

PlayStation owners who have not tried the game yet can find it included in the PS Plus Extra subscription. Following the trend of other PlayStation PC ports, PC users are also looking forward to the announcement of a PC version.

Additionally, a live-action movie based on the franchise is now in development, and it may also be filmed entirely in black and white, as suggested by the film’s director.
