Forza Motorsport Needs Active Internet For Career Mode Progression

Free Play Still Available Offline!

Forza is returning to racing simulation with Forza Motorsport. The game has been confirmed for an October 10 release date, leading to plenty of excitement for the first Motorsport game from Forza in several years.

Forza Motorsport is claimed to be the most advanced racing game ever made, so the expectations for this title are sky-high. However, Turn 10 has revealed a piece of information that might be disappointing for some users.

According to the developer, the career mode in the game will require a steadfast internet connection to run.

Why it matters: Previously, games with an active internet connection requirement have faced criticism, including examples like Redfall and Gran Turismo 7. Therefore, Microsoft’s latest racing game may receive similar criticism.

The information comes from Chris Esaki, the Creative Director for Forza Motorsport.  According to the Director, the game requires an active internet connection for the progression system. This requirement ensures a safe and fair experience.

The game will still run offline, and players will be able to enjoy some aspects of the game, but for those looking to fully experience the latest Forza title, an internet connection is mandatory.

He stated:

“Any progression in the game will be stored on our servers.”

“There are options to play offline, so things like Free Play are always available, but any progression requires an online connection.”

Forza Motorsport is introducing the Builders Cup. This is Turn 10’s latest take on career mode, introducing new options for players to conquer the racing tracks.

The Creative Director also confirmed that the title will add new cars and tracks to the career mode. He compares the career mode experience to an RPG title but designed for car and racing enthusiasts.

With the numerous positive aspects of the game, fans might find themselves disappointed with the online requirement. As mentioned earlier, Redfall faced criticism for this decision. However, the developers are currently looking to remove the requirement.

Forza Motorsport is among the two big AAA games from Xbox in the next few months. The franchise has always been well-received on the platform, and the new entry is expected to receive similar love.

However, the internet requirement may push away some fans. Turn 10 Studios has not mentioned any changes to the requirements, but with enough backlash, the developer could reconsider the decision to implement an online requirement.
