Live Service Games Coming To PC!

Sony has just officially announced the PlayStation Showcase, which is going to be held on May 24. Following the announcement, Sony has also revealed information regarding its Corporate Strategy Meeting 2023.

The company has talked about many things, including PlayStation and its future growth in the gaming industry. In the report, Sony mentioned that in addition to increasing the active player base on PlayStation, the company also wants to increase them on PC through live service games.

Why it matters: Sony has been steadily porting PlayStation games to PC. With games like Spider-Man and God of War, PC has become a new home for various PlayStation titles. The same could also happen with the company’s upcoming live-service games.

Highlighting the future goals of live service games, the report states:

“We also intend to increase the number of active users on PC, in addition to PS5.”

PlayStation’s live-service endeavors are no mystery at this point. Various first-party studios are already working on this genre, including games like The Last of Us stand-alone multiplayer.

Previously, Hermen Hulst from PlayStation hinted at potential day-one PC releases for live-service games. This could be crucial to ensuring that PC players continue to engage with PlayStation titles.

PlayStation also confirmed that more ports are planned for PC. This should mean that PC users will soon have a variety of upcoming PlayStation titles, ranging from single-player to live-service games.

Looking at the report, it is clear that Sony is trying to appeal to the PC crowd with live service titles.

Games like CS:GO, Dota 2, and Apex Legends have dominated PC gaming for many years, and PlayStation could see enormous benefits from breaking into this segment. On the other hand, the PS5 console also continues to do well, and Sony is aiming to ensure success on all fronts with this strategy.
