The Division 2: Next-Gen Version Would Leave Last-Gen Behind

The Division 2 Next-Gen Is Unlikely!

The Division 2 was released on March 12, 2019, and it has gathered a dedicated fanbase who loved the game over the years. The game has received enough support that Ubisoft extended its life by releasing a new content roadmap.

As Ubsioft has confirmed another year of support for the game, fans have wondered about a potential next-gen version of The Division 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Ubisoft has recently addressed these concerns, and some fans might find the response disappointing.

Speaking to MP1st, Ubisoft has confirmed that the next-gen version of Tom Clancy’s The Division is unlikely as it would leave the last-gen behind. The Division 2 Creative Director explained Ubisoft’s thought process. He said:

“That’s unlikely. Taking full advantage of those would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations.”

He further explained that the player base on older generation consoles is still going strong, and they do not want to leave those players behind or make them upgrade their system. He also stated their goal is to make sure whenever they do something new, it runs smoothly on older platforms as well.

Next-gen console players might not be too fond of this response, but older console owners will be glad to know that Ubisoft is still supporting them.

Still, The Division 2 supports 60 FPS and higher resolutions on new consoles. However, no graphical improvements like ray tracing were made for the next-gen consoles.

Ubisoft is also working on a new game in the franchise, with the free-to-play Division Heartland spinoff. However, it is unclear if Ubisoft plans to work on a mainline entry in the franchise in the near future.

Aside from that, what do you think of Ubisoft not releasing a next-gen version of Division 2? Have you played the game yet?
