Nintendo DMCA Strikes The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer

Nintendo Goes After Multiplayer Mod!

In 2021, a YouTuber named PointCrew offered a $10,000 reward for creating a multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As a result, modders Alex Mangue, and Sweet, along with PointCrew, started working on the mod.

They posted gameplay videos of the mod along the journey and finally decided to release the mod a few days ago, on April 4, 2023. However, it seems that Nintendo was not too fond of the mod as they took down gameplay videos with DMCA strikes, which was disappointing for the mod’s developers.

PointCrew took to Twitter to express his frustration and disappointment and hoped that Nintendo would take back its decision. He further continued the thread by stating that after appealing, the videos are available to watch but are still demonetized

He stated,

“Hopefully Nintendo releases these claims, as I significantly transform their work and my videos are under fair use.”

The mod itself is still available, and we hope Nintendo takes back the claims, but being aware of Nintendo’s history with such incidents, nothing can be said for sure.

Nintendo has been part of the gaming industry for decades, but when it comes to defending its IPs, they are the most vicious since they have a history of attacking those who create ROMs, emulators, and mods.

As such, it would not be surprising to see the company attempt to stop the mod altogether. This would be highly disappointing for the hardworking modders.

Additionally, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom, the upcoming installment, will release on May 12, 2023, and is currently on sale for a whopping $70, the highest price ever for a Nintendo Switch game. However, Nintendo believes the cost is justified.
