Judge Dismisses Gamers Lawsuit

Microsoft has been in a tough spot since it decided to buy the major giant Activision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 billion. Microsoft has faced many issues with regulatory bodies like the FTC, and major firms like Sony and Google have also voiced opposition to the merger.

If this weren’t enough obstacle in Microsoft’s path to acquiring Activision Blizzard, a group of gamers also decided to sue Microsoft to stop the Activision merger because they felt Microsoft would have too much power over iconic game franchises.

Recently, analyst Florian Mueller published a document that revealed the court had ordered that the gamers’ lawsuit be dismissed and that they would need to redraft their complaint—additionally giving them 20 days for a new try.

The court stated,

“The Complaint does not plausibly allege the merger creates a reasonable probability of anticompetitive effects in any relevant market.”

With the Activision merger receiving approval in nations like Saudi Arabia, Chile, Serbia, and Brazil, it appears that Microsoft will now have one less weight to bear. As a result, Microsoft can breathe a sigh of relief, but only for a little while because there are still many obstacles.

Also, there has been a lot of tension between Microsoft and Sony. Sony is not considering any partnerships with Microsoft because Jim Ryan has indicated that his only goal is to stop the Activision Merger, and he does not want any deals.
