PS5 Beats Nintendo Switch Sales In Japan For The 5th Week In A Row

Leading For Over A Month!

For a long time, the Nintendo Switch had been the best-selling console in the region, but Nintendo’s hybrid console has been losing momentum. Months after Sony ended PS5 supply shortages in Japan, the console thrived with impressive weekly sales.

Famitsu’s latest weekly report reveals that PS5 has outsold the Nintendo Switch for over a month in Japan, leading for the fifth week.

Nintendo Switch PS5 Japan

The Nintendo Switch sold 61,384 units, while PS5 led the charts with 91,729 consoles. Despite Nintendo’s position in the market, the PS5 has maintained steady sales in Japan.

Microsoft has been less successful than the other two giants. While the gaming giant sold over 14K Xbox Series S|X consoles a few weeks ago, this number has decreased to less than 1000 consoles this week.

While the Nintendo Switch has had an exceptionally great run so far, the console appears to be slowing down as it approaches the final months of its lifespan. Recent reports have claimed that Nintendo will release another Switch model in 2023, and a next-generation console is likely coming next year at the latest.

On the other hand, the PS5 is just getting started, with various games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Final Fantasy 16 coming in 2023. The latter, in particular, is expected to be huge for Japan and should lead to even better numbers for PlayStation.

Sony also started a new advertisement campaign recently. This campaign extended to different parts of the world and celebrated the worldwide availability of the PS5 after years of stock shortages.

Both consoles have unique perks and benefits and an exciting library of games coming in the following months.

While the PS5’s eventual lead was inevitable, the current pace of the Nintendo Switch is nothing short of amazing for the console’s age. Nintendo will likely see a sales boost with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, but it remains to be seen if the hybrid console can reclaim its top spot in Japan.
