On Feb 21st Hearing About Microsoft Activision Deal

Things have not gone smoothly for Microsoft ever since they decided to buy the huge corporation Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion, as they have encountered numerous problems along the way.

Microsoft has faced numerous issues with regulators, and Microsoft was also sued by the FTC reportedly, to stop negotiations with EU regulators. Additionally, giants like Sony and Google are against the acquisition because they believe Microsoft will gain a competitive advantage.

According to a recent report from MLex, shared by ResetEra member, Idas, it appears that Microsoft, Sony, Google, NVIDIA, Electronic Arts, and Valve will be attending the European Commission’s closed-door hearing on the Microsoft-Activision deal in Brussels, Belgium, on February 21st.

Microsoft’s president, Brad Smith, and the chief executive of their gaming division, Phil Spencer, will be appearing at the hearing. Furthermore, Activision’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO, Jim Ryan, will attend the hearing.

Further representatives from Google, NVIDIA, Electronic Arts, and Valve would be present, and other rivals and customers could attend the hearing.

A few days ago, the CMA concluded its investigation regarding the Microsoft-Activision deal and said they were against the acquisition, which Microsoft had already expected. According to them, the acquisition could mean “higher prices, fewer choices, or less innovation for UK gamers.”

Although Microsoft has recently faced some serious challenges, the approval of the acquisition by the regulatory agencies of Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Serbia, and Chile has provided some respite. Microsoft is aiming to close the Activision deal by June 2023.

We are excited and looking forward to the hearing on February 21st, and we are hoping they all unite on a conclusion. This is the limited information we have for now, but we will be looking for more news regarding the Microsoft-Activision deal in the future.
