Sony Shipped 7.1 Million PlayStation 5 Units In Last Quarter; Best Quarter Yet

Expert Verified By

Almost 2x The 3.9 million units sold in the same quarter the previous year.

Since its release in November 2022, the PlayStation 5 has gained much popularity. The gaming console was a massive success for Sony and has garnered a lot of positive feedback. Although there were supply issues during its inception, they are reportedly almost resolved now.

The console has reached yet another milestone, as the third quarter of Sony’s current fiscal year was the PlayStation 5’s most significant sales quarter yet, selling 7.1 million units in the three months ending December 31, 2022, according to the company’s most recent financial report for the third quarter of the Fiscal-Year 2022.

Sony previously revealed last month that the PlayStation 5 had sold over 30 million consoles, and now the FY-2022 Q3 earnings announcement has shown that the console has sold over 32 million units.

This takes the total number of PlayStation 5 consoles sold over the first three quarters of Sony’s current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2023, to about 12.8 million units, which is the best the console has performed in a fiscal year so far.

Accordingly, Sony would need to ship about 6.2 million consoles in the final quarter of its fiscal year to achieve its target of shipping 19 million PlayStation 5 units (up from 18 million units) in the current fiscal year.

A significant reason the PlayStation 5 performed so well in Q3 of FY-2022 was that the PlayStation 5’s long-term supply issues were much better during the quarter. Sony also revealed last month that getting a PlayStation 5 would be much easier now.

This means that Q4 will see even more outstanding performance as PlayStation 5 supply issues will reportedly be at an all-time low, so we look forward to how the PlayStation 5 performs in the last quarter of Sony’s FY-2022.

We are excited and looking forward to seeing how the PlayStation 5 performs in the future. This is all the information we have for now, but we will be looking for more news regarding the PlayStation 5 in the future.
