60FPS Xbox Series S Games Should Be Easily Ported To Switch 2, Says Dev

Expect Most Current-Gen Games on Switch 2 Eventually!

Story Highlight
  • A developer claims that the Nintendo Switch 2’s GPU is slightly weaker than that of the Xbox Series S.
  • The team believes that games supporting 60FPS on the budget Xbox should be easy to port to Nintendo hardware.
  • However, CPU-bound games like GTA 6 are unlikely to receive a port.

Much has been said about the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 since its release. Nvidia boasted a 10x graphical jump for the console before release, while another developer compared it to a mid-range PC.

The system has also been shown to outperform the Xbox Series S in certain scenarios, and the latest comments on the hardware come from the famous developer Virtuos. According to the studio, the Nintendo Switch 2 is slightly weaker than the Xbox Series S.

Why it matters: Although the original Nintendo Switch already saw plenty of third-party support, fans can expect even greater support with its successor’s more capable hardware.

Most Games Run At 60FPS On The Xbox Series S

For context, Virtuos has helped develop games such as Dark Souls Remastered, the recently released Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered, and more.

According to the studio, games that run at 60FPS on the Xbox Series S should be easy to port to the Nintendo Switch 2. The developer states that this is because, as far as GPU capabilities go, both consoles are fairly similar.

Any game shipping at 60FPS on the Series S should easily port to the Switch 2.

This also means that 30FPS Xbox Series S games that aren’t overly CPU-intensive should be easy to port in a similar fashion. However, titles that are limited to 30FPS due to complex animations, physics, and other elements that strain the CPU would be challenging to port.

One such game is expected to be GTA 6, which will likely be limited to 30FPS across all three major platforms next year. Still, this should mean that a majority of current-generation games will eventually make their way to the Nintendo console.

The Switch 2 Will Likely Punch Above Its Weight Just Like Its Predecessor

Virtuos also expects the console to outsell its predecessor in the future. If the initial sales are any indication, this is a very safe bet.
