Nintendo Switch 2 To Miss Early 2025 Launch As Plans Change

Devs Now Expecting Switch 2 To Arrive Later!

Story Highlight
  • Previous reports pointed to a March 2025 launch for the Nintendo Switch 2.
  • These plans seem to have changed, with Nintendo expecting a launch after its current financial year.
  • The gaming giant might have delayed the launch for a better first-party lineup.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to receive any official details so far, but the company has previously confirmed a reveal within the current fiscal year. Since then, the rumor mill has not seen much activity, but a new report has just surfaced.

According to an industry insider, the Nintendo Switch 2 is unlikely to arrive before April next year.

Why it matters: If true, this would put the new console outside of Nintendo’s current fiscal year, potentially changing financial trajectories in a significant manner.

Nintendo Has Been Supporting Its Current Console For Many Years

Previously, the Nintendo Switch 2 was said to be targeting a March 2025 launch. It seems these plans have gone through a revision, however, as GamesIndustry’s Chris Dring reports, developers are being told otherwise.

During the latest episode of GamesIndustry’s podcast, Chris Dring noted that developers have been told not to expect the new console this financial year. However, many people are still expecting to see the Nintendo Switch 2 sooner rather than later.

According to the report, some are holding out hope for an April/May release, even if this appears unlikely. Ultimately, Nintendo seems to be on track to missing an early 2025 launch.

The Next Console Is Expected To Be On Par With The PS4 Pro

This could also lead to a scenario where the console is pushed back further to ensure the most optimal release window. Perhaps the gaming giant has made this decision to line up compelling first-party releases to sell the new hardware.

Whatever the case may be, the Nintendo Switch 2 should still be coming next year. Because so much has been leaked about this console already, most of the work on Nintendo’s end seems to have been completed.

Even if the console arrives a bit later than anticipated, its predecessor is still going strong. Big games like Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are also lined up for 2025.
