Using Battlefield 3 And 4 For Inspiration!

Story Highlight
  • EA is returning to a back-to-basics approach for Battlefield.
  • The next game is in full production and focuses on 64-player multiplayer mayhem.
  • Vince Zampella is specifically using Battlefield 3 and 4 as references for the next major release.

The Battlefield series has been quite inconsistent in recent years. Games like Battlefield 2042 have had various ups and downs, leading to the sentiment that DICE no longer understands the essence of this series.

Following comments about the next entry being a tremendous live-service project, fans were further concerned about the franchise. Fortunately, Vince Zampella shared some good news with everyone. He states that the IP will focus on its roots moving forward.

Why it matters: Fans have been craving an experience that reaches the same heights as DICE’s work on Battlefield 3 or 4. It seems the studio now aims to deliver just that.

Battlefield 2042 Was A Huge Departure From Past Games In Many Ways

Speaking to IGN, Vince Zampella described his vision for the series. He confirmed a modern setting for the series, something that hasn’t been seen in over a decade.

For context, Battlefield 4 was the last entry in this series that took players to a modern setting. Elsewhere, Vince Zampella specified that he considers Battlefield 3 and 4 the best examples of this IP’s unique appeal.

Therefore, fans can expect the next entry to be heavily inspired by both these games. This would be a welcome change of pace since both titles are nearly universally beloved by the fans.

I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is.

Many Fans Still Prefer The Older Games From DICE

During the same interview, Vince Zampella pointed to a returning focus on 64-player gameplay. He confirmed that production has been ongoing since earlier this year, with more information to come in 2025.

All in all, fans finally have something to look forward to when it comes to EA’s popular first-person shooter franchise. With the creator behind iconic IPs like Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Titanfall at the helm, Battlefield could finally find its footing soon.

This would make for an interesting future since a first-person shooter series like Call of Duty has recently stumbled in multiple ways of its own.
