Microsoft has granted us the ability to customize the appearance of our Xbox to suit our personality since the Xbox 360 came into being. This customization ability includes your desired background wallpaper, the color theme of the overall dashboard, and the ability to place your favorite games on your home screen. All of this helps users customize their Xbox with a touch of their personality.
Recently Twitter account, Aggiornamenti Lumia posted an update about Microsoft starting to work on a new Xbox app dubbed an ‘unnamed project’. The GIF posted by them shows that Microsoft is working on an Xbox application with the sole purpose of creating dynamic wallpapers.

This will be an editor similar to the one found in many triple-A games that allows you to fully customize and edit the screenshots with effects to add more depth. The only difference is that it goes above and beyond because it has an option to add layers on top of a background similar to what you do in high-end editing software like Photoshop. The left section can confirm this, which offers the ability to add and load assets.
The bottom portion has a timeline much like timelines found in a lot of video editing software. This timeline allows you to add up to eight ongoing effects and assets. The right side offers a range of effects that you can choose and drag into your timeline. Here, you are free to alter the position, tweak the size and add any visual effect to your assets.
In the empty timeline, we can see that there is a ‘sub-image animation’ option that allows users to create their dynamic wallpapers in this same application. Microsoft added the dynamic wallpaper feature a while ago where the background image was animated and moved across the screen. Xbox has a list of its dynamic wallpapers but they are limited to a few only. The dynamic wallpapers created by users could be accessed by a third-party app called “Theme my Xbox”.
Looking at the GIF, we can see that the application is called “Xbox Dynamic Backgrounds Editor” and it is being run on a Windows device. The ‘unnamed project’ is simply the action-packed image they created starring the main Halo spartan and is only left unnamed.
This can also be confirmed because it would be harder to edit images in such detail without the use of a mouse. It is expected that there will be an option to directly share created image to your Xbox.
Conclusively, it is not particularly an Xbox application. Instead, it is a windows application that benefits you by providing you with an immersive image that you can set as your background screen on your windows device or your Xbox. This act by Microsoft is admired since it allows more personalization to your Xbox and for the first time, these animated backgrounds would be officially created.
These animated images were created in other applications but it is great to see Microsoft working on an app that is dedicated to this. It is easy to see that these wallpapers would pave the path for GIFs and more immersive 3D animations that would further enhance the appearance of your Xbox.
