The Elder Scrolls 6 Success May Not Shield Bethesda Devs from Online Hate, Says Ex-Developer

"Even If The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Great, I'm Sure There's Gonna Be Death Threats Yet Again!"

Story Highlight
  • It has recently been reported that Ubisoft plans to protect its developers after launching Assasin’s Creed Shadow.
  • On the other hand, one Skyrim veteran stated that it is inevitable for Bethesda developers not to get online harassment.
  • He further stated that the developers would still face death threats even if Elder Scrolls 6 is great.

Over the years, the developers have been facing harassment and death threats just for developing a game some people don’t like. A former Bethesda developer stated that even if Elder Scrolls 6 is great, the team would still face harassment.

Why it matters: Bethesda has seen the most harassment online over the years, as the developers have most often released half-cooked titles at launch, resulting in negativity from the people.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Is Already Over A Decade Old.

Just recently, one of the former Bethesda developers, Nate Purkeypile, who’s worked on almost every title from Fallout 3 and 4 to Skyrim and Starfield, claimed that online harassment is almost inevitable for Bethesda developers.

He further stated that even if Elder Scrolls 6 is great, the developers will still receive death threats and face online harassment.

Even if The Elder Scrolls 6 is great, I’m sure there’s gonna be these hour-long YouTube videos [and] death threats yet again

Nate believes that if the developer releases something people don’t like, the online people will treat you like you’re clubbing baby seals.

The Elder Scrolls 6
The Elder Scrolls 6 is still many years away.

Not much is known about the Elder Scrolls 6, but if recent leaks are true, it has been reported that the next entry is Hammerfell and could be shown later in July.

Bethesda has also announced massive announcements for the rest of the year for Starfield. So, the developers have been working hard to offer some quality content, or so it appears.

Not too long ago, it was reported that Ubisoft plans to protect its developers from online harassment, which many developers have faced over the years.
