  • It’s been stated that the handheld would even support Megalights and other latest UE5 features.

While Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to be officially announced, rumors have already revealed much about the handheld.

Though Switch 2 won’t be as powerful as other current-gen consoles, that’s something Nintendo never really focused on. However, a recent Digital Foundry video suggests that the Switch 2 will support every Unreal Engine 5 feature.

Why it matters: UE5 is the latest and most powerful engine, so running all its features would be great for the Switch 2 as it will allow players to have a smooth experience while playing UE5 games.

During the weekly Digital Foundry podcast, a fan asked whether the Switch 2 would be able to run all the latest UE5 features. In response, one of the experts stated that the handheld could even run the recently released MegaLights feature

it’ll support things like VSM it will support Lumin it could even support megalights right there’s nothing stopping.

It has also been stated that some of the features would be Switch 2 versions of the technology, which would, of course, come with some trade, but that’s going to make the latest features on the handheld.

Looking at all the massive publishers moving to the latest Epic engine, we believe Switch 2 would definitely support the latest features from the engine. Though it’s likely that not every game will scale well, Nintendo would still try its best to make it run on the handheld

Nintendo Switch 2 Reportedly Launching Next Year

While this sounds exciting, it’s best to take it with some grain of salt. These are just speculations, and nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo yet. A recent report has suggested that the console may miss its early 2025 launch

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how the Switch 2 will perform at launch, as the official announcement isn’t far away. It has also been reported that the handheld would cost around $500 and is expected to arrive before H2 2025.
