- After a successful PC launch for Spider-Man, Sony appears to be ready to port Spider-Man 2 to PC.
- According to leaks, this port will cost as much as $4.6 million.
- It should be released sometime between April 2024 and March 2025.
Following Insomniac’s internal leaks, a roadmap confirmed various projects. The leak did not stop there, however, as the entire plot of Marvel’s Wolverine showed up, sales figures for games like Bloodborne were revealed, and Marvel’s exclusivity contract was detailed.
This data breach also confirmed various aspects of Sony’s PC ports, and one document appears to be hinting at a Spider-Man 2 port coming in Fiscal Year 2025.
Why it matters: Spider-Man sold over 1.5 million units on PC, being one of the better-received ports. Since its sequel is a more ambitious game, it should be met with a similar reception on PC.
The information was spotted by Aquamarine on the Install Base forums. It confirms a budget of $4.6 million for the PC Port, which is approximately twice the cost of the first game’s PC version.
According to schedules, work on the port will be finished by the end of Fiscal Year 2024. Therefore, a release in Fiscal Year 2025 makes a lot of sense, allowing Insomniac and Sony to launch the game between April 2024 and March 2025.
Still, the journey of Spider-Man 2 is not yet finished. Other leaks reveal Insomniac has plans for 3 expansions, likely spread out over 2024, so the studio might wait for all the DLC content before releasing the PC version.
For now, Horizon Forbidden West is PlayStation’s next PC port. With this game arriving in early 2024, Sony might be able to fit in another port between this title and Spider-Man 2.
If we had to bet, early 2025 seems like the safest option. By then, PlayStation will have maximized sales on consoles, being free to offer the game to PC users without fear of cannibalizing sales.
Interestingly, the leak confirms PlayStation’s X-Men contract includes PC versions of Insomniac’s games. Therefore, PC gamers can expect future releases like Wolverine and the X-Men team-up games to also arrive on Steam in due time.
With another leak suggesting a multiplatform approach from PlayStation, the gap between PS5 and PC ports might continue to close, possibly leading to a future with day-one PC games from Sony.
