Multiple Exclusive X-Men Games For PlayStation!

Story Highlights
  • Insomniac’s cyber-attack reveals that Marvel has signed a contract with Sony to develop exclusive X-Men games for 12 years.
  • Three or more X-Men games are planned to be launched in the next 12 years.
  • A large number of Marvel titles are coming in the next few years.

The previous few hours have been a disaster for Sony and Insomniac.

Being plagued by a cyber security attack, tons of information, including a roadmap of upcoming games, has surfaced online. However, it also reveals that Sony has signed a deal with Marvel to develop exclusive X-Men games till 2035.

Why it matters: X-Men is one of the world’s biggest superhero franchises, and Sony owning the IPs for many years could be a major win for PlayStation, considering how great Insomniac is at creating superhero adaptations.

Insomniac Games Marvel's X-Men

While Insomniac is creating X-Men and Wolverine games, the exclusivity doesn’t end here. No X-Men characters can be a part of other games on other platforms if they provide a competitive advantage in the game.

The document provides the example of playing as Wolverine in Ultimate Alliance exclusively on Xbox. This would not be allowed till December 31, 2035. However, the characters can appear in games with multiple characters in a scenario with a team-up.

This means that Sony will own Marvel’s X-Men for the next 12 years to come. In addition, the leaked roadmap details when each of these titles is planned for release.

After 2026’s Marvel’s Wolverine, we have the second X-Men game in 2030 and then another in 2033.

Marvel Wolverine

However, there are possibilities of a fourth title as well. Despite X-Men being exclusive to PlayStation, Marvel is currently working on a Blade title with Xbox. Moreover, they also have games like Iron Man and Black Panther in development.

Therefore, if you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the upcoming years are going to be a joy for you. And for X-Men fans, buying a PlayStation might be a good idea since Sony is ready to bless you with tons of new content in the upcoming years.
