Skull and Bones: 90% of Xbox Players Already Moved On From The Title

Players Forgetting Skull and Bones Already!

Story Highlight
  • Skull and Bones was released a few months ago.
  • The game seems to have lost nearly 90% of its players on Xbox.
  • Over on PlayStation, Sea of Thieves is outpacing this pirate adventure.

While Ubisoft claimed Skull and Bones hit record player engagement at launch, the game was far from fans’ expectations. Following its release, many players went back to Assassin’s Creed 4 to enjoy a worthwhile pirate adventure.

However, Ubisoft continues to release updates as part of its live-service plans, and while season 2 of Skull and Bones is nearing its release, recent data has suggested that 90% of Xbox players have already left the title behind.

Why it matters: Ubisoft needs no less than a miracle at this point to bring back the players since the studio has promised at least one full year of support.

As reported by True Achievements, which gathered data from over 2.4 million Xbox accounts, Skull & Bones is doing worse than before on the platform.

Data shows player counts are down by a whopping 90% compared to the initial launch. However, since season one is coming to an end and the next season is coming with a lot of new content, some players may return.

Unfortunately, the report also stated that Skull and Bones has been unable to increase its player counts in any way since its release. It seems the game has been on a downward spiral since day one.

The data shows this AAAA title being Xbox’s 221st most-played game, which is certainly far from ideal for a live-service release launched a few months ago. While data for platforms like PC has not been shared, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar or worse.

Ultimately, Ubisoft may find its live-service ambitions cut short. Recent statements have been encouraging, but there is a visible lack of excitement around this IP.

It was also reported that Skull and Bones hasn’t been doing great on the PS5 either, as the player count continues to sink.

Season 2 arrives by the end of this month, promising a slew of new content. Ubisoft has shared a new story trailer as it prepares to launch the new content, but it remains to be seen if this will be enough for the live-service title to bounce back.
